President Donald Trump (R) won the presidential election in Montana on November 3, 2020.

The Democratic and Republican parties held primary elections in Montana on June 2, 2020. Former Vice President Joe Biden won the Democratic primary, and President Donald Trump won the Republican primary.[1][2]

Montana was one of seven states with three votes in the Electoral College, making it tied for fewest. Montana was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in every election between 1996 and 2016; the last Democrat to carry the state was Bill Clinton (D). Between 1900 and 2016, Montana backed the Republican presidential candidate in 66.67% of elections and the Democratic candidate in 33.33%.

In the 2016 electionDonald Trump (R) carried Montana with 56.2% of the vote to Hillary Clinton‘s (D) 35.7% and Gary Johnson‘s (L) 5.6%.
