Missouri was one of four states (alongside Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) to have 10 votes in the Electoral College, making it tied for 18th-most. Missouri was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in every election between 2000 and 2016; the last Democrat to carry the state was Bill Clinton (D). Between 1900 and 2016, Missouri backed the Republican presidential candidate in 53.33% of elections and the Democratic candidate in 46.67%. It backed the overall national winner in 86.67% of elections.
