Tennessee was one of four states (alongside Arizona, Indiana, and Massachusetts) with 11 votes in the Electoral College, making it tied for 14th-most. Tennessee was carried by the Republican presidential nominee in every election between 2000 and 2016; the last Democrat to carry the state was Bill Clinton (D). Between 1900 and 2016, Tennessee was carried by the Republican presidential candidate in 50% of elections and by the Democratic candidate in 50%.
In the 2016 election, Donald Trump (R) carried Tennessee with 60.7% of the vote to Hillary Clinton‘s (D) 34.7%.
