On July 7, 2020, former Vice President Joe Biden won the Democratic primary, and President Donald Trump won the uncontested Republican primary. The primaries were postponed from June 2 in response to the coronavirus pandemic.[1]
New Jersey favored Democratic presidential candidates in the five elections between 2000 and 2016. In 2016, Hillary Clinton (D) won 55.5 percent of the vote in New Jersey to Donald Trump‘s (D) 41.4 percent.
In the 30 presidential elections between 1900 and 2016, New Jersey has voted for the winning candidate 80 percent of the time.
